It’s the time of year when I ask people to go take the Community Survey!

Emphasis on the community part — people who do not currently or have not ever identified as ace are welcome to take part if they are interested & in fact having some comparative data from non-ace participants is helpful for the survey teams data analysis

acecommunitysurvey.org/2021/10

I will answer questions directed my way to the best of my ability

However I am not on the survey team and am also not interested in your opinion about the fact that they’re using a google product for the survey so please keep that to yourself.

(If you notice any major oversights in the survey *design* eg, questions assuming a single partner, and don’t want to provide feedback with the survey team directly I will pass those along)

self‐harm

@Satsuma « Have you ever had thoughts of purposely hurting yourself without wanting to die » they could really stand to clarify this question. do sports count? what about tattooing? what about painplay?

self‐harm

@Lady i would definitely not count sports, the others i think the ambiguity is semi-intentional in that they consider the important factor to be that the person conceptualized it as hurting themselves (which is not how most people conceptualize tattoos)

re: self‐harm

@Satsuma i would be hesitant saying “most people” there; some people very intentionally DO get tattoos because it is a socially‐acceptable form of self‐injury

probably not “most” people who get tattoos but it’s not uncommon

re: self‐harm

@Lady yeah that was the point i was trying to make — if they conceptualize it as self injury than they should answer yes, it they just want a tattoo they should say no

re: self‐harm

@Satsuma i don’t think anyone will ever phrase a self‐harm question in a way that i will like though; i think the question of “harm” is very mired in questions of normative expectations / assumptions / being a productive citizen
