I am down on my hands and knees begging, PLEADING, for creators of horror games (video or otherwise) to use literally A N Y T H I N G other than Lovecraft
It's so played out
I don't even care about the latent racism right now, I'm just BOOOOOOORED of it
Also, I've said it before, but going into a horror thing KNOWING it's Lovecraft saps all the actual horror out of it
@coriander some of the most effective horror for me comes from media that is necessarily horror
like encountering a redead for the first time in Ocarina of Time
or there was a moment in in Tár that was absolutely chilling, and it helped that I wasn't expecting anything like that at all
