If the number is nonzero then the system of equations has a solution, hence it "determines" an important characteristic of that system of equations

You are selling hot dogs for 1.50 and bratwurst for 3.00. at the end of the day you made 62 dollars and are missing 50 buns. You need to buy more hot dogs and brats for the next day but how many of each should you buy? How many hot dogs and brats did I sell?

Well we have from the profit I made that

1.50*(number of hot dogs) + 0.50*(number of brats) = 62

And I also have that
(number of hot dogs) + (number of brats) = 50

That is a system of equations. From it I can solve (number of hot dogs) and (number of brats)

@aescling @amy @cam the reason this happened is because when I went to write my master's thesis a colleague of mine shared a latex document containing all of the styling she used as well as the document for her actual thesis on Overleaf

so I was like okay I'll just use that then

@cam @wallhackio @amy i wish i had a useful resource on paw so i could say something more helpful than “i believe in you” but i at least do genuinely mean that. imo everybody can learn math really but i think it’s often taught quite poorly

@aescling @wallhackio @amy to be fair when I say I’m not very good at math I mean that I haven’t learned it in a while and didn’t learn anything beyond calculus so when I see an integral or a matrix or a big sum symbol I just black out

I’m meant for simpleton disciplines like biology
