it's kinda fun that a fruit that i otherwise only know of from mentions in like, british television shows, i ate for the first time here and actually fairly frequently (well, things made from it)

quince/membrillo

@alyssa yeah probably don’t eat quince raw! but it sure is tasty

@Satsuma i still don’t have a clue what they even look like. but fortunately i probably wouldn’t just try to eat an unknown fruit or vegetable without further investigation anyway.

@alyssa kinda like giant, oddly knobbly, apples tbh — they are close relatives

i’ve only had quince things a small handful of times but we DID buy some to make quince paste once when I was a kid—I remember being baffled bc the flesh is white but then it magically turns rose colored as it cooks! (nashi pears also do this)

@Satsuma neat. it is v common here. we got some pastries from a vegan bakery today (due to ML having a 7k discount on first order from their food ordering thing) and i went with basically sort of a cinnamon roll but with dulce de membrillo instead of cinnamon.

@Satsuma yeah! tho it was a bit busy? like lots of little seeds and nuts that imo it would have been better off without. but still v tasty. sofi liked the mini fruit pie she got (fewer options sin TACC). and we also got some medialunas which are a bit on the small side but v tasty.

@alyssa ah yeah sometimes something more straightforward is better to showcase the flavors
