while helping caleb install a GotoSocial instance i was like “okay let’s read through the instructions” and then immediately said “okay we’re going to ignore the furst one because i don’t like what they’re telling you to do” lol
they suggest installing to /gotosocial but that’s not FHS-compliant

@wallhackio @aescling For the most part, the filesystem hierarchy standard says where in the filesystem you should put things, and it's never in the root directory: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filesystem_Hierarchy_Standard
(Do you have to pay attention to it? No, but it does provide a minor nod towards consistency. But you won't always get everyone to agree on the right place for them anyway.)
