medical study news, adhd-related

it turns out that acetaminophen (tylenol) use by pregnant mothers has been linked to higher rates of adhd in their children, oops... that's probably part of why i'm so weird haha

@kit ..... huh. why though?

re: medical study news, adhd-related

@aescling@glitch.cat.family i don't know if medical science knows the specific mechanisms behind why this happens yet, which is what i guessed your question was about...

re: medical study news, adhd-related

@kit yeah that’s what i mean. i just wanna know why that would even happen!

re: medical study news, adhd-related

@aescling @kit Tylenol is just weird stuff, and we have only a relatively vague idea of why it works. It is also known to ease emotional pain (see for example npr.org/sections/health-shots/ ), but may also blunt empathy. ("It does these things but we're not sure why" is true of a surprising amount of medicine, really.)
