re: subtoot
@holly i believe that there will one day be an accurate CRT filter. or maybe that one is even out there. but i've never seen it
re: subtoot
@monorail there's plenty of pretty good ones out there. geom, hyllian, easymode, guest to name a few.
re: subtoot
@holly oooh cool. i was correct to believe
re: subtoot
@monorail yeah like... the problem is that most games that implement a crt effect go WAY TOO HARD on it with pointless stuff like curvature and the like. or the ultimate crime: scanlines that dont' line up with the actual horizontal lines of resolution
re: subtoot
@holly yeah lmao
i know that most CRTs are curved. i know that some CRTs (mostly older ones i think?) are very curved. but holy shit you do not need to fisheye the whole game about it
re: subtoot
@coriander @monorail @holly but Consumer Reports would always rank CRTs highest based on picture quality so you are Objectively Wrong
re: subtoot
@wallhackio @coriander @holly what does this mean
re: subtoot
@monorail @coriander @holly there was a magazine that my parents subscribed to when aescling and I were kids called Consumer Reports. They were famous for reviewing cars and home appliances.
because of Autism we both loved the arrays of scores for different appliances
re: subtoot
@wallhackio @coriander @holly i am familiar with consumer reports i just don't know what coriander said that was wrong :P
re: subtoot
@monorail @coriander @holly oh lmao. Cori said that CRTs had a terrible fisheye effect but I reminded them of the Objective Truth that consumer reports would consistently rank CRT televisions the highest based on picture quality so the fisheye effect couldn't be that bad if consumer reports didn't mind
re: subtoot
cori said that shitty crt filters in emulators and whatever have terrible fisheye effects, and CRTs don't
re: subtoot
@monorail @coriander @holly FUCK
re: subtoot
@monorail @wallhackio @coriander @holly *objection text effect* FUCK!
