the obvious example to be beyond if you wanted to address problems affecting a numerical minority that is a minoritized population. theoretically their concerns could just get outvoted

this (hopefully obviously) wouldn’t work; some level of federalism is clearly necessary for particular communities to both (a) be able to advocate their own interests, and (b) self‐govern regarding things about which they ought to have autonomy
if it’s true geographically, i don’t see why it wouldn’t also be true along other axes
idk what a good solution to this is but i do think it is the most obvious challenge to the idea of direct voting being the ideal form of democracy
