nintendo’s blatant exploitation of the smash community is really something

idk if hegemony is really the right way to describe it but the way much of the community (up to and including (former) top players) is happy to be officially recognized and (basically not even) supported is something else

idk seeing hungrybox get moved to tears over the panda global/nintendo tournament series was wild. why would you WANT nintendo’s involvement. did you just completely forget what their relationship with competitive smash has been this whole time

@aescling problem with having a scene that only young people can really excel in

@Lady hbox IS old enough to remember

he was never a TO though, he may just be ignorant

@aescling @Lady the impression i get from the people who are "excited" about nintendo involvement is that their position is

"there is no 'nintendo leaves us alone' outcome. there is 'nintendo gets involved, with everything that brings with it' and 'we're not allowed to have tournaments'."

@monorail @Lady i personally feel like the latter is ultimately not truly enforceable, though i’m sure nintendo could make tournaments much more difficult to run if they really wanted to
