contemplating just publishing a working Zelda lore piece on AO3

am i going to have to learn classical hebrew for this

@Lady If it's only for a little -- to write or to read? I've got passable skills (... rather worse at writing) I could lend.

@gaditb so the issue here is that the way i am charting Hylian history, they have

• a very early Hebrew period (the original legend of zelda, adventue of link)

• a Germanic period post‐exile from Old Hyrule with possibly some Hebrew influence [i’m a fan of the interpretation that the Mudoran Script in A Link To The Past is just Hebrew Germanic which is why Link is able to reasonably translate it once he learns the Latin‐script correspondences]

• a Greek period (overlapping with the Germanic period but primarily as a prestige dialect), and finally

• a Latin period for recent stuff

[i promise this is all reasonably evidenced (altho not canon) and i’m not just making shit up]

[there is also definite Sanskrit influence in some games and i’m still trying to figure out how that fits in, which is kinda difficult as i know 0 sanskrit; it’s definitely never spoken by either common Hylians or the royalty though]

MOST of the hebrew stuff is just like, rare or archaic names like Kaepora Gaebora [widely suspected to be כפרה גיבורה], so Practically Speaking i don’t need to be conversant in it, but it does help to like, be able to read the script and understand how words are put together, lol
