@Satsuma in japanese the period character is ‹ 。 ›, so they can and do use ordinary periods as single dot ellipses

@Satsuma this is actually a bit unconventional for two reasons: (1) japanese ellipses don’t typically use fullwidth periods like that, and (2) typically they are centred on the line rather than placed on the baseline
