I've fallen down the rabbit hole of watching review videos for board games I will never play and I think the board game design that interests me the least is "board game that's trying to be an RPG"

@coriander you're suddenly reminding me of a battle system I made that I would play with my friends during downtime in middle school

That is to say, I have been part of this problem

@wallhackio I mean, I know crunchy combat games are a whole genre and I'm not super interested in those either but the "wants to be an RPG" genre is more than just that

It's when it's that and world exploration and inventory management and character customization and NPCs with dialogue etc etc etc

@coriander I'm about halfway through the video and it honestly seems better than I expected

@wallhackio I still feel like I'd rather just play a real TTRPG, personally
