a while ago amy was talking with friends about the term "friendslop" and how there's not really a good alternative. the suggestion of "party game" came up, "we don't need a word for them, they're just party games"
which is really interesting to me because, to me, a game like peak or lethal company or whatever feels almost like the opposite of a party game. a game like mario party is for any time, once or twice a year, that your friends happen to be in the same room for the rest of your life. a game in the vein of lethal company is for you to play in discord calls 4 days of each of the next 3 weeks and then maybe never again. and those ideas of the role the game will play in your life have huge impacts on the design of the game imo
@wallhackio @monorail yeah; it feels a lot harder to trick my friends into playing Mario Party when there are so many other games for them to be playing
