I timed my stardew math script and it took 733968 milliseconds to run 1,000,000 simulations for a farm with 116 plants and 125 casks. That is about 12 minutes and 14 seconds

@wallhackio Sherclod Holmes, are you still solving the case of "Starfruit Wine" versus "Ancient Fruit Wine"?

@lapis ancient fruit will always eventually outsell star fruit but it takes about 4-5 months, at minimum, for ancient fruit to outsell star fruit. given that the typical casual perfection run is anywhere between 4-7 in-game years this is a reasonable time frame for a non-speedrunner or challenge run youtuber

however, when the farms get larger ancient fruit takes considerably longer to overcome star fruit because of the time spent turning ancient fruits into seeds. A greenhouse with four iridium sprinklers and ancient fruit will only outsell a star fruit farm of the same size after almost 3 years, which starts to be an amount of time that might not be worth it

EXCEPT a star fruit farm of this size is a MASSIVE initial cost because of how expensive star fruit seeds are. A greenhouse full of star fruits and iridium sprinklers that you constantly replant, turning all into iridium-quality wine or selling unaged wine if all casks are full, will lose over 100k in profits from seed purchases alone. It takes more than 1 in-game month for such a star fruit farm to start returning profits

You tend to have 100k to burn once you get a late-game wine farm going so i don't think a star fruit farm at a large scale is practical for the casual player seeking perfection. But for speedrunners and challenge runners who can easily perfection in two years star fruit is the clear better choice

TL:DR pierre did it send him to jail

@wallhackio Uh actually didn't Sandy do it Pierre doesn't sell starfruit

@wallhackio sorry gonna be :weaboo: for a second:
それは。。。あんただ!

@lapis incorrect. i like sandy a lot and am going to marry her once 1.7 drops so she is innocent and perfect. i am not biased.

@wallhackio CHEATING ON HALEY????* :grr:

seriously though you'll have to tell me how she is. I'm probably gonna date her because I'm curious because my interactions with her so far have been p boring and static

(no I will not date clint unless he has like a 2 star event where he permanently becomes a completely different person)

  • I know this would be a new file I'm just messing with you

@lapis I remember coriander and tawaret were having a conversation the other day talking about "who on earth was hoping to marry sandy" and i was like, me! i was! :clodsire_angy:

@wallhackio @lapis literally what do these people have against sandy she's so nice

@cam @wallhackio if I had to guess it's more there's just not that much to her right now (I mean, I might be wrong, I'm barely in the desert so I don't have a strong relationship with her) so it's like "Emily's friend who likes flowers and is probably cool with vaccinating your kids*" but there's not much dialogue so far there.

Maybe after I reach floor 100 in the skull caverns??? 🤷

  • Emily is definitely an anti-vaxxer. probably anti-flouride in water too.

@lapis @wallhackio no I just think she seems cool. i would like emily if she wasn't nuts. i liked her pre-her becoming a marriage candidate and getting events

@wallhackio @lapis and genuinely believes in horoscopes and refuses to talk to geminis or whatever sign they hate

@cam @wallhackio I mean I have nothing against Sandy (I like her better than Clint) I think part of the problem is there aren't really any other female characters you could feasibly add as bachelorettes unless you make one up or break up a marriage

(Let's not forget: Robin was a choice in the 1.1 Bachelorette poll. This could have happened. People wanted Anti-vaxxer emily more)

(I kid but I would never break up robin and demetrius)

@lapis @wallhackio i would break them up. I'm better than him. Let me fuck robin

@lapis @wallhackio just one chance robin I'm infinitely better than this lame ass MAN

@cam @wallhackio Demetrius is kinda boring but I will take the autistic rep I can get

@lapis @wallhackio i was mildly annoyed by his extremely pedantic "buying tomatoes when being asked to purchase some fruit" thing

@cam @wallhackio if I had to guess, he was probably thinking of whatever science he was doing when he left, and grabbed the closest fruit (tomatoes) in a flakey-mood

@lapis @wallhackio but at the grocery store apples are always closer to the entrance than tomatoes

Show newer

@cam @lapis if demetrius didn't have that two-heart event he would be one of my favorite NPCs in the game

@cam @wallhackio ooh you know what could be a good thing to add?

Make MARNIE a candidate

but the thing is she's not serious about you (at least to start) it's more about some fake-dating scheme to get Lewis to legitimize their relationship

and maybe it can work out that way!

Or maybe you can marry Marnie and adopt Jas

@lapis @wallhackio there's a stardew valley expanded character that I really want to marry but she's not even friendable

@lapis I'd be pretty surprised if I end up liking sandy more than haley, after marrying haley I am very Normal about haley

@wallhackio Haley is so good 😭

(Is Haley tsundere or just a bitchy person to start with? We are not having this conversation as it would never end)

@lapis have you ever seen Fiona Sangster's stardew valley character deep dives? they're quite enjoyable and made me like most of the characters a lot more

Personally I think Haley at the beginning of the game hadn't learned what empathy is yet. She genuinely doesn't understand the world outside of herself. Her character arc is her interest in the player causing to learn to start thinking about how other people work and that differing perspectives are valid.

I don't think she realizes her comments at the beginning of the game are kind of cruel.

Also my experience with Haley was unusual. I didn't have the usual dialogue you are supposed to have where she insults you when you first meet her. My time ever talking to her was when she takes pictures in Cindersap Forest and the game says "she does not seem to notice you are there." And I was like "oh cool, we stan a queen who is autistic about her hobbies"

That being said, if you don't like Haley because she is an ass when you first meet her that is fine. Ignorance is not a defense for cruelty.

@lapis she has videos on every marriage candidate, say goodbye to 30 hours of your life

@wallhackio will do probably when I need a break from the farm but am waiting for 1.7

@wallhackio I know in my case with Haley it's more like I have a weird fascination / like of dating women who are bitches but sapphic in games (I know this would be much simpler if I just expanded it to "Tsundere Ladies" but it's MORE than that)

@wallhackio also genuine question though it's gonna come across asshole: Does it matter that much? I mean I skimmed the page on perfection and it looks like you have to buy expensive stuff to get it but it feels like if you go the brewing wine route it takes an eternity to age and sell anyway

@lapis to get perfection you need to buy four items from the wizard which cost, in total, 12,500,000 gold. so you need some kind of late-game money source

ancient fruit isn't the only viable late game money source, i admit. its just the most popular one

@wallhackio I know it would be harder to say, but given The Great Ace Attorney have you thought about being Herrclod Sholmes?

(I know that was due to a rights issue damn the IP law to hell)

@wallhackio also if you spell it with two rrs like it's German I think it becomes "Hair-clod Sholmes"

Long post about VIDEO GAMES and International IP Law AKA: Why Sherlock Holmes became Herlock Sholmes

@wallhackio Okay

When The Great Ace Attorney (Dai Gyakutan Saiban) came Westward for real instead of a fan patch, one of the issues is that Sherlock Holmes is literally a character in it.

The IP regarding Sherlock is a bit convoluted in the west (not as bad as Peter Pan though Fuck that law) so to bring it west they had to switch some letters around to make a Pastiche of Holmes (I believe it may help that iirc Holmes is a himbo in this game)

So Sherlock Holmes becomes Herlock Sholmes. This is made funnier because IIRC Phoenix Wright makes a reference to Sherlock Holmes who, due to the name change, would not be a historical figure in his world it just makes him sound like that time I accidentally said "Lord Brian" instead of "Lord Byron"

(I should note I know nothing about JP IP rights but I get the impression for the most part they are FAR less favorable to creators to the point where you can lose your IP rights before you die at least in the case of some manga. IIRC that's why Ken Akamatsu went into JP Politics which feels... weird.
So basically Sherlock Holmes was not a problem to include in the Japanese version)

@wallhackio sorry that was long and I didn't know I had that much to say about a game I haven't played

@wallhackio also I assumed you were a big ace attorney fan because isn't Ghost trick by the same guy?

@lapis I played the first one it was pretty good. i liked ghost trick 1000000x times more

@wallhackio I understand your lore better

I was gonna say "I'll update the Clodsire Wiki" but we lack wiki pages for our masto accounts. I know I was extolling the feature of the personal note thing today, but I think Mastodon accounts should come with wikis.

Personal Notes aren't big enough to accomodate lore

@wallhackio also I believe as of this year or the year before Sherlock Holmes is fully in the public domain so in theory Capcom could have just sat on the release a couple years. I'm not saying they should have, I just find it kinda cosmically funny
