While you were studying obscure config options, I was failing at basic linear algebra exercises

@vaporeon_ I got an F in linear algebra at Cornell University and when I told my advisor afterwards that I was developing an interest in Physics she told me that "I don't think that is a good idea" because I struggled in linear algebra

@vaporeon_ Seeing linear algebra in actual use in differential equations and quantum mechanics helped it click

The way it was taught to me in a class was very formal, extremely boring, and seemingly pointless

@vaporeon_ anyway a few months after i passed my qualifying exam for my physics phd program and colleague of mine got their phd and so we students went bar hopping in celebration

one of the faculty who graded my qualifying exam was with us. while he and i were severely inebriated he told me that my performance on the exam was, by far and away, the best of any student that year

(you're supposed to keep these things a secret lol)
