@coriander all of it
@wallhackio They'd Rather Be Right is so bad a novel there is a conspiracy theory that Scientology infiltrated the Worldcon voting panel and made it win
@wallhackio Oh sorry I see the issue
It won a Hugo
@coriander i wanted to know what happened in it and why scientology meddling would be a conspiracy theory
@wallhackio So they make a computer that can do psychosomatic therapy on you and remove all of your biases and incorrect assumptions and fallacious thinking, leaving you a creature of pure logic and rationality, and in doing so it will also render you young and sexy again AND it will give you telepathy but it doesn't work for a lot of people because you have to be willing to give up your preconceived biases and most people would Rather Be Right (oh ho ho) and then a capitalist gets involved and helps the project stay independent from meddling governments and Insidious Outside Forces until they finally realize the best way to handle it is to open-source the computer and sell them to everyone The End
@wallhackio As for why people blame scientology I don't actually fully know that but the concept isn't ENTIRELY dissimilar to dianetics so maybe that has something to do with it
@coriander @wallhackio plus Scientology was founded only two years before, so it was new on the scene
god, know what else came out the same year as this book? The Fellowship of the Ring
@wallhackio which part is confusing you bumby
