i've told this story before but it's endlessly funny to me

more than one really good melee player i respect a lot has told me "listen, mono, you have to side-b less. i know, you know, you've said it's a bad habit and i get that. BUT. you are the best falcon player at using side-b i've ever seen"

i was telling one of my friends who's really good at that game that "people joke that raptor boost just goes farther when i do it"

later we were playing friendlies and i hit her. "it does!", she said. "it just goes farther for you!"

it still is wrong of me to use it as much as i do. i would probably be a better player if i never used it than i am right now

but i can get away with using it more than other people i think

i occaisonally get pings in the melee online discord (there's a #missed-connections channel where you can say "hey, if the person who goes by TAG#123 is in here, great fuckin games" or whatever, and i've also posted my tag in there so it's not hard to find my actual discord account and ping me)

and they say "oh my god you have to stop using side b"

i never reply to them but i always think "didn't ask + ratio". which i guess is true because they're usually only one person saying that to me and i'm two girls thinking the mean thing so it is a ratio

@holly the thing is that i can't be too upset, the advice is SO good. like side b sucks ass

@monorail yeah i get it. they could still be more polite about it :P

@holly tbh they usually are

one time someone (not from matchmaking, i had posted in the discord asking if anyone was up for games) actually expressed to me that they were upset. they said something like "i know you're better than me but it does kind of hurt my feelings when you use bad moves just to style on me, if you played for real then at least i'd get to practice defensive options against actual gameplay"

and i felt sooo bad lmao. "i'm so sorry, i wasn't being disrespectful, i'm actually just like this"
