Trying to inflict my love of Visual Novels on @murz

(no I have not bought them a certain VN series that is longer than War and Peace.... yet.)

@wallhackio okay gonna start with, most of these work on Windows and Linux (due to wine and or steam deck), a lot of them are not Mac-Compatible which is a @murz problem (There is some not!WINE thing for Macs but you have to pay for it and I know NOTHING about it so I couldn't help if need be)

  • 999 DS / PC (PC has voice-acting and a lot of QOL features like being able to jump ahead to new material because you have to play through the game multiple times. but the DS one has something that is superior, but I don't want to spoil it) You wake up, with 7 other strangers and your childhood friend, you each have a watch strapped to your wrist (each with a different number). You must follow the mysterious Zero's rules and escape, by doing both puzzles and math (basically if you see a door that says idk "12" on it or something, only a permutation of people with numbers that add up to 12 can enter that door)

  • Ace Attorney. Everyone loves those gay lawyers.

  • I like the VN Rose of Winter - You're a young maiden who has always dreamed of being a knight, and you can escort a prince (you have 4 choices) through some mountain pass. I have not completely cleared this (have one path left, plus some misc endings). It's cute. toby fox did the music.

  • Serre is by InsertDisc5 famed creator of In Stars and Time (and that is not A VN so that doesn't count for this). It's available on steam with achievements, but there's a chance you already own it if you've done some of those itchio Charity Bundles.

  • of the Devil is really good. Think a cyberpunk Ace Attorney. Play the demo and see what you think. I will not say anymore regarding it.

  • Hanako Games makes a lot of VNs (I think maybe all their games count as VNs?) I think their most famous is "Long Live the Queen" which is VERY hard to get a good ending (Read: don't die) I have heard of people going through it with a spreadsheet. I have not gotten a good end with it yet but it's a goal.

  • Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is a horror "Sound Novel" / Kinetic novel set in July of 1983 in Japan. The episodes end quite bloodily. Check CWs (Beyond gore I mean) if you want to play this.

  • Umineko is my VN / Drug of choice but I would not recommend it to start with as like I said it's literally longer than War and Peace.

I will mention for both When they cry / "No Naku Koro ni" games there are mods, as the Manga Gamer sprites are ugly (Ryukishi could not draw for shit especially in Higurashi but those sprites at least have charm) there have been console ports with better (And high-res) art, and also voice acting? 07th-mod.com/home/ If you are going to play either of these series install the damn mods before playing (as it is not compatible with existing save files)
