there's something so fundamentally frustrating about looking into, i'm sure probably any scientific field but i'm watching a physics video right now so i'm thinking of that

the fact that we have models that are so good but are wrong pisses me off

@monorail it's usually more "not quite finished yet" than "just completely wrong" at least

@norikawa oh yeah i don't mean "bad and worthless" just. i hate that there are questions that a correct standard model could answer but ours can't and we don't know why

@monorail @norikawa as a former physicist, I will say these things bother you initially, and then you get so lost in the sauce in the sheer intensity of the foundations of the field that it takes years to reach a point where you can look at the big picture again.

I got a master's instead of getting a
PhD because I realized that I wasn't interested in partaking in academia anymore, so I never did reach the point where I could lift myself out of the sauce lmao
