surprisingly the fascists were not the monster in The Devil's Backbone

if you want to optimize for scaring me personally with a horror movie, you should use these three elements:

• bugs (bonus for ants but that's probably so much bonus i just won't watch your movie)
• things or other people impersonating or replacing people
• lots of high perches and falling and structural collapses

mimic did 1.5 out of 3 but i liked it a lot

i was about to be like "okay but there's like half an hour left in this movie but i have no clue how they're gonna survive the next five minutes" but then stuff happened and okay that fits, i dig it.

on the other hand, i'm a fan of how we never really clearly see the monsters in full

some of these scenes could do with more lighting

this is definitely one of the more scary types of horror for me.

unless too many ants show up and i get too scared. there are a lot of bugs certainly

really, a bold choice to have a movie whose plot centers about something an alchemist devised to grant eternal life have it work by just turning you into a vampire hehe

i liked this movie

dude's just a vampire at this point. finds blood very tasty, harmed by sunlight, doesn't die.

my fiancée said "pieces of wood through the chest are notorious for bypassing immortality" when i mentioned the alchemist in the beginning of the movie not surviving such an event and zie really did not know how right zie was

i am also a sucker for the hairstyle that Liz has

anyway, not gonna top my ranking of his films, but it was fun.

not sure if there was a kinda fun air of detachment to the film or if i was just dissociating
