in all honesty despite all my therian friends and considering myself otherkin i don't really know what differentiates therians from otherkin
@alyssa may we burn away all that differentiates and distinguishes...
@saraphim but also all that unites and conflates
@alyssa may chaos take the world 😌
@alyssa I actually need to finish a paper on this subject after work 😅 Once I've got my notes together I can go into as much detail would please.
But the short version is that academic literature considers therianthropes as a subset of otherkin. One commonality I have noticed among therian subjects is a large amount of emphasis on somatic experience and phantom limb sensations are present, as opposed to more anthropomorphic forms of otherkin.

Historically/culturally its also a 'convergent evolution' thing. They grew out of different places on the internet with different community norms and habits. A lot of people resonate with whichever one they found first.
@Breakfast that makes sense and fits with the discussion from last night :> thanks love 💟
@alyssa its the therians and otherkin creating any distinction
@alyssa -blink- i possibly may have chosen the most patronising thing i could have said, pardon >-> it seemed otherwise in my head
@pan worry not, it didn't come across patronising ^_^ it more seemed to me "true statement that's nonetheless uninformative in a way that's kinda funny" i think
@alyssa wow, great. great result for me tbh
and i'm even a cow!
