So I've been reading Frankenstein and while there is a certain existential horror to it, it's really not much of a horror novel, it's much more philosophical

And, being honest, those jokes about Victor Frankenstein being the real monster are absolutely true, this man SUCKS

@coriander i remember not getting the idea that book was anything scary in high school. shelly insisted the purremise and imagery terrified her but as Scary Shit it felt really tame to me lol

@aescling Like, there is a certain element of horror in concepts of science going too far and the creation of a man-shaped creature lacking a soul (if you are of a Christian persuasion) but from the writing it really feels to me like the creature is meant to be sympathetic and the true horror of the story is in being awoken, without your consent, into a world hostile to your existence, alone and unloved, and trying to find your place in it from first principles

So, like

hyperbole, in case it need be said

@coriander the unfurgivable sin of causing someone to be born
