@monorail The rules of scrabble are that both horizontally and vertically those have to be valid words, right? What are OON, ANE, and MEED?

@vaporeon_ i don't know what they mean personally but i know that tournament scrabble play involves memorizing the spelling of a lot of words that you don't know what they mean hehe

@vaporeon_ the other reason this is special is that it also had to be valid before AMENDED was played

@monorail Are you saying that AH, RE, ER, OO, LI, AN, MEE are considered valid words in Scrabble? :psyduck:
What is a MEE? What's LI? Unless you count HTML elements as valid and it's <LI>...

@vaporeon_ i don't know, and i suspect that neither player at the board knew either :P

there's a famous story of scrabble grandmaster Nigel Richards winning the french scrabble championships in 2015 despite not speaking french. it's just a list of words you have to know the spellings of, not any different than english really. took him nine weeks of dictionary study supposedly

@vaporeon_ keep in mind that Nigel Richards is certainly much, much better at dictionary study than you or i would be if we tried that little maneuver

plus, even if we had perfect word knowledge, we wouldn't have any of his strategic insight

@monorail @vaporeon_ yeah, like, other purrofessional scrabble players were extremely impurressed that he managed that once, nigel’s infamously, like, beyond anamalously good at scrabble
