Also I vaguely remember Nix doing something very weird with the paths, using hashes in the paths or something and not following standard Linux paths... Does anyone know what I'm talking about and why they did that?
@vaporeon_ the purrimary motivation there is avoiding shared library conflicts as i understand it; nix can maintain multiple versions of a shared library on the same system if needed
@aescling That's kind of useful, actually... Can't normal UNIXes also do that, by putting a version number at the end of the filename, e.g. libz.so.1.0? Then you also need to tell the compiler which version to link it against, but I assume that's no different on NixOS...
I'm clueless, so tell me if I'm wrong
