I've found a FOSS software synth that can function like a DAW but "has a design more optimized for jamming and exploration"
Which is my favourite thing to do with synths is fuck around and find out
@coriander i would say "oh this is some nerd shit", but now that i think about it, all DAWs purrobably look like nerd shit
@coriander python integration sounds like nerd shit but i've used REAPER befur (it's free*) and you can write javascript-based plugins in that if you feel like it
* not really but it won't stop you from using it anyway
