i like how Kris, Susie, and Ralsei all have struggles with their identities and the roles assigned to them by society and/or Some Vague Higher Calling and also all have complicated relationships with gender. Kris is explicitly nonbinary and textually (if easily missed) has conflict with societal gender norms; Susie is a butch and rather comfortable with masculine gendered terminology being applied to her, which may have something to do with the way she is consistently on the outskirts of society; Ralsei explicitly struggles with the vaguely religious role assigned to him by the Prophecy, and is only barely subtextually transgender after chapter 5 (which even eventually explicitly they/thems them in the menus if you know to look fur it). i don’t really think this is accidental and it’s neat
