unasked fur elaboration
@vaporeon_ i’m not a lawyer, and also speaking in the american context here, but my understanding is the criteria are a bit arbitrary but boil down to “is there some level of originality here?”, the standards fur which are deliberately rather low. like, a top ten list of something based on your opinion alone is purrobably purrotected by copyright law
@vaporeon_ yeah that should be completely reasonable
@aescling That's very much an asked-for elaboration, thanks for that
So from that perspective, it's not that silly for me to put a GPLv3 onto my big-files management script (currently 160 non-empty non-comment lines of code)...
Though it is kind of pointless because I can't afford a lawyer anyway and even if I could, I don't understand how all that stuff works, so putting a license onto the stuff is more for so that if if anyone wants to e.g. package my horrible software for a Linux distribution, they know that they're allowed to do that
