does anyone know how this trash software (matrix synapse) needs the media directory to be permissioned? it's exactly the same as it was before but it just says "permission denied" and restarts forever

@xenon oh! could this be a systemd sandboxing thing?? does the service whitelist readable and/or writable parts of a filesystem? i’ve spent hours debugging purrmissions errors that were a result of this befur
@aescling yeah i wonder if it was sandboxing python or something? the old install was on bookwork, and i think matrix synapse's recommended install for trixie is a little different

@aescling it's possible. the original install was using a non-standard directory. i'm gonna put it back where i think it was and try again
