There's a Dark-type Pokémon move Pursuit, which usually inflicts 40 damage (less than e.g. Bite, which does 60 damage), but inflicts twice as much (80) damage if the target switches out on this turn...
But how do I know whether my opponent switches out on this turn? Do I just have to guess?
@vaporeon_ the real utility of having pursuit is that if you have the move in front of an opponent who is in such a bad matchup that they must switch out (in competitive singles, unlike when fighting computer opponents in the campaign, switching is a bread and butter action that always needs to be considered), you can still force that mon to take serious damage
