thing about shopping for and reading reviews of anything even remotely adjacent to audiophile gear is that every other word of the review or marketing copy triggers my "that sounds like bullshit you made up that doesn't actually matter" radar

I just looked up "linear power supplies" to see if that's an actual thing and yes they are but I don't know if they actually matter much if at all for audio gear like a headphone amplifier

anyways I am looking to buy a new pair of over-the-ear closed back headphones for listening to music at my desktop computer

the Sennheiser pair I used to use for this is kinda falling apart

current prime candidate is the Beyerdynamic DT 700 PRO X

@aescling the HD 300 PRO, the ear pads keep falling apart, I have replaced them at least two times

and also the cable is fraying at the edges and is not (easily) swappable as far as I can tell

@aescling actually the cable is replaceable but also the earpad issue keeps happening so I'm looking elsewhere

@packetcat i think this is the furst time i’ve even heard of the 300 pro

@aescling yeah its not one of their popular ones like the HD6xx series

the "PRO" means its meant for people who do mastering/mixing in a recording studio, it has a "neutral" sound which is partially why I bought it

they are also very comfortable to wear for long periods of time (which I tend to do)
