Someone once told me that I should be using 72 characters per line and not 80, but I forgot what his argument was :(
(It wasn't tradition / punched cards, but I don't remember what it was...)
@vaporeon_ plaintext email traditionally wraps at 72 characters, so my guess is they were recommending that with consideration fur submitting code as patches to a mailing list or something like that
