the unity thing is such a mess and i still am not over the fucking idea of Install Bombing a game to rack up a bill on the game dev's behalf
i mean, i can even think of how you'd make a script to easily do that *on one machine* just by closing and reopening the game and easily counteract at least most methods of detecting a unique install, from registry editing to deleting data folders to VPNs

unity doesn't have access to storefront metrics, given that they're just an engine, so the only way they could possibly know abt new installs is by sending some shit to their servers in the engine itself
which, like, makes it trivially easy to work around and trivially easy to exploit
