"the existing setting we are expanding the definition of defaults to off, therefore this is opt in" is bad logic if the setting doesn't turn back off in the same update where it's expanded, for all users you're checking the setting of
(you cannot do that for federated social media, since not everyone will be running mastodon let alone update simultaneously)
my profile is set to discoverable so that people can see my profile if they're looking at tenforward.social
that didn't mean i chose to opt into full text search
i in fact do not want my posts searched, and have opted out of search engine indexing for exactly this reason
@MindmeshLink as an instance admin i think i Ought to list my purrofile in the directory but i still don’t want my posts searchable (even if i rarely post publicly) and i have already decided to remove my account listing
