it turns out that the kernel being used doesn't exist on the hard drive so it was using the kimsufi rescue kernel. it's booting from the hard drive now

having it boot from the hard drive isn't working, but neither is switching back to rescue, so i think i'm just gonna let it soak on hard drive boot for a little

i'm in rescue now and i'm gonna try repairing grub

i think i'm gonna try contacting their technical support, because a technician just putting the server back into rescue mode and closing the request gives me no information

i don't have grub rescue, i'm having to completely guess what's going wrong during boot, and i've run grub-install three times now and nothing changed

outside of completely reinstalling the OS or guessing the problem and solution correctly, i can't do anything without their information

if the ticket isn't answered soon, i think it'll be faster just to do a full server reinstall. i don't like not knowing the potential downtime, and just reinstalling everything manually would mean the server would be back up tonight or tomorrow

i'll make another backup for redundancy in the meantime

the OS was installed, and i've been doing basic server setup before starting to upload some files

there continues to be a mysterious loss of ipv6 support

i also learned that i can't setup a turn server on ubuntu server 22.04, and i'm not sure what the implication of trying to do so anyway would be

we won't be installing coturn until we understand what' exactly could going wrong

i'm not certain if matrix synapse can federate properly, and i'm worried it's because of the lack of ipv6 connectivity. i'll see how it does

i may have to try disabling any ipv6 configuration, if we can't actually use the ipv6 address anymore

i opened a support ticket with kimsufi about it. it really should just automatically connect over ipv6, but i can't even get the OS to show that the address exists. i'm assuming it has something to do with their network, but i'm not sure

in the meantime, i'm completing transfers for the static sites and peertube. the migration would be mostly done when they're all brought online

all static websites are online, and the matrix synapse file uploads are working again
