mastodon terminology change
Where did the idea that direct messages are encrypted come from, anyway? You shouldn't have that expectation on any platform that doesn't explicitly advertise it (like Matrix, XMPP+OMEMO, Signal, etc.). Your Twitter DMs are not encrypted, your Facebook chats are not encrypted, your Grindr messages are not encrypted.
The Twitter comparison in particular is pretty damning because it's the closest platform to Mastodon, and specifically calls their non-encrypted messaging "direct message". So I really don't see the point in changing it. Feels like a complete waste of time and energy.
re: mastodon terminology change
@starfall did they change the terminology?
re: mastodon terminology change
@aescling yes
eugen was trying to delete the feature entirely but decided to just change it all to "conversations" and "only people i mention"
re: mastodon terminology change
