Today we learned that the 1954 book "How to Lie with Statistics", which we read as a child and enjoyed, was written by Darrell Huff ... who went on to work for the tobacco industry towards discrediting the evidence that smoking causes cancers, because the proof that smoking causes cancer relies entirely on statistics.

(And/or may have already been working for them - we can't find dates on a cursory search.)
