I have my physical tomorrow AM and they're also drawing blood &c for tests for our insurance "wellness rate." Basically, if we meet some targets, we get a nice break on insurance premiums all year. And it's pretty much impossible not to get the rate as long as you do the screening.
I already have the break for 2027; this is looking ahead to 2028 😁

@greyor @twistylittlepassages this does feel like they’re just trying to reimplement the differential rates for patients with preexisting conditions that were banned by obamacare

@twistylittlepassages @Satsuma i hear you there. I am sure there are people for whom it's a big hurdle and I don't love that. But AFAICT they want people to get the discount. I think the "class" if needed is literally like a YT video from what I've heard.
Def not trying to defend the practice. I would much rather have single-payer non-employer (Medicare for All, &c.). But if this is what we have I'll jump through the hoops to save $$.
physical health
@twistylittlepassages @greyor there must be *some* people unable or unwilling to get the discount, and enough of them that it justifies the cost of the extra bureaucracy — otherwise it’d be far cheaper for them to just offer the price after discount to everyone as the price.
physical health
@Satsuma they're probably counting on people like the spouse and I, who live in a rural community where healthcare has been gutted, so there's no one locally who is considered a provider for their screening.
it's not enough of a discount to put a dent in our budget, but it's really irritating. @twistylittlepassages @greyor
physical health
@titania @Satsuma @twistylittlepassages ahhh yeah I dunno.
We have an employee clinic so I always do the screening there. It is available to anyone on the plan and I do basically everything there. If I gotta go elsewhere it is rare.
I wish things were easier for everyone ultimately.
physical health
@greyor Totally! I don't blame you for taking advantage of the discount; I'm glad it's easy for you and people who you work with. I wish that insurance as a whole didn't do vaguely creepy stuff in the name of "helping you save money" (barf) when it's preventative care they should just be offering across the board, period, without tying it to like, "health goals".
physical health
@titania @Satsuma @twistylittlepassages agreed for sure. I mean everything preventive is covered AFAIK. The goals thing is weird for sure tho. It is a flawed system but changing it is above my pay grade so I'll do my best with it.
Also thank y'all for being kind to me. I def didn't want to be offensive or an asshole or anything with my initial post 😵💫
physical health
@greyor you're fine, I don't think you were. :) @Satsuma @twistylittlepassages
physical health
@Satsuma @twistylittlepassages yeah that is a fair point. I'm not sure on that honestly. I'd agree.
They changed up our insurer last year to a "zero deductible" copay-only system. So the copays can vary a lot. But now my CPAP is basically free, when before I had to pay like $20 here and $200 once or twice a year. So none of it makes sense and it is all oddball...
physical health
@Satsuma @twistylittlepassages it sounds like it but see my reply a sec ago. They set people up to succeed with it IMHO.
Like I'm fat, use a CPAP, &c. And I've still gotten it every one of the 7yrs I've worked here.
