I think fandom should get more credit for all the sex cults we *haven't* started

@serenadestrong I don't have enough familiarity with the situation to be sure I'm not misrepresenting it, but there's a woman who's in the circle of people who went from Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality --> AI millionaires/Roko basilisk who had an orgy for her birthday and has a substack where she talks about the sex she's having, and everyone is talking now about "AI is a sex cult" and I am not persuaded the sex isn't tangential to the cult, tbh.

It's a little weird we're not constantly sprouting new sex cults like dandelions.

But if you count sex cults that don't cause drama and take place entirely over DM there's probably thousands we never hear about

@Betty @serenadestrong i mean, i am not sure overbroadening the definition of cult is particularly useful — if it doesn’t involve coercive control / a charismatic authority figure then surely thats just a normal polycule or kink scene
