this post fascinates me bc like, i don't doubt op's experiences, idk why they'd say all that if it wasn't true for them, but i never watched spongebob (it was very slightly after my time) and this has never once been a problem in my life. i've osmosed who the three main characters are and a few popular memes about it and that's it. nobody brings spongebob up to me in my day to day.
@rigormorphis spongebob definitely does come up like, weirdly often but also wild to me that someone with heavily restricted media as a kid made it to adulthood without learning the art of pretending to get a reference to a piece of media you haven’t seen
@rigormorphis i haven’t seen most disney movies and tbh have no interest in changing that, a fact which never comes up despite disney being everywhere because people will start talking about me like i was abused as a child when they find out but its really not that hard to just skate past a joke you don’t quite understand bc its w reference
