The "Make a Terrible Comic Day" website (makeaterriblecomicday.com/) linked to this post sophieyanow.com/a-gentle-comic about making MOAR terrible comics

Okay no it's about making quick comics and getting in the habit.

The first comic is supposed to take 1 minute. I failed to make a 1-minute comic; I spent like 8 minutes on this one. I think that means I should make tomorrow's comic take less time instead of more, so maybe 7 minutes tomorrow? idk how this works.

So this one took 16m39s. I only got slower from yesterday, oh no 😅

Also, I forgot Zhenshay's tail and went back to add it, so let's say 17 min.

In the spirit of "gentle", I'm not stopping just because I hit the time limit, tho. I'll try to be faster tomorrow?

#gentlecomicshabit

This one was 24 minutes, I gotta rein it in time-wise.

Also, Voice1 here looks like a cartoon version of Cassie from my Apothecaria journal, so maybe I'll draw her differently next time.

#gentlecomicshabit

I made a page on my website for these because I believe in the theory behind "control your own work instead of having it all on social media."

even though I feel like the practice of it is WAY MORE WORK than the people advocating it want you to think.

It's not linked to from anywhere else on the site so you have to use the direct link. Maybe if I keep it up for a while, I'll give it a top level link, idk.

25 minutes.

I realized I was putting off doing this because 'I don't do them fast enough to meet the goal'

and, like, the point of the time limit is to KEEP you from avoiding it.

So I'll still try to keep to simple ideas that I can finish quickly-by-my-standards. Like, an hour or less? But I won't worry about taking 'too long'.

Also, I keep forgetting Moon has a black blaze. It wouldn't really show in the other cartoons, but I re-opened this image file to add it.

This one was like 25 minutes to draw and then 15 minutes moving the figures around and getting all the dialogue to fit. 😅

I am amused that the only character named so far in the actual text is the cat. Priorities.

#gentlecomicshabit

19 minutes! At last, one that was faster instead of slower.

Me: wait wasn't I going to do a close-up of Zhenshay for this one?
Also me: too late now, I'm almost done with it.

29 minutes

#gentlecomicshabit

8th one! 35 minutes.

Starting to feel like a habit at this point.

#gentlecomicshabit

Oh hey I did a cat one when it happened to be #caturday , sweet.

I don't know how long this one took. 20-30 minutes? I didn't time it and took two different sessions on it.

#gentlecomicshabit

I started to time this one but took some breaks and forgot to restart the timer. Mistakes were made. This qualifies as low effort in the sense of "the illustration quality is low" but not in terms of 'not taking long'. :dragon_sweats:

#gentlecomicshabit

I forgot to run a timer for this one too, and also Lyric kept wanting attention while I was working on it, so I'd stop for a while to pet her. 45 minutes, maybe?

#gentlecomicshabit

I ran the timer for drawing and text layout (39 minutes) but not for the brainstorming beforehand. So idk, call it 50 minutes.

#gentlecomicshabit

I think I will formally give up on timing these. Running a stopwatch app was always sort of annoying, and on the ones that take more than 15 minutes I inevitably get interrupted or take a break and forget to stop and/or restart.

Zhenshay comic, spoilered for cartoon blood

Me: I'm doing these daily, it doesn't really matter if each one has a punchline
Also me: I will jam three times as many words as will comfortably fit so I can work in a punchline for this one

#gentlecomicshabit

I realized today that I should either re-use the art or actually switch up the perspective or something.

But switching up perspective is *hard* and the foundational premise of these is "low effort"

idk

don't expect me to keep this 'visual interest' thing up.

#gentlecomicshabit

okay yesterday was enough high-effort composition for one week

#gentlecomicshabit

look it's been nice meeting you two and you seem like good people but you need to leave now because the artist is sick of drawing you

k thx bai

#gentlecomicshabit

@Satsuma you can tell I haven't forgotten about Puppy because I still drew her in the panel 😅
