meat thermometers fucking own and I don't know why I've gone my whole life without one

why would anyone eyeball a piece of chicken to tell if it's done when they can use real science

@The_T actually the real thing i use my instant read thermometer for is bread

@Satsuma huh. I've never felt a need to check if bread is done.

I use a bread maker tho.

@The_T its nice for unfamiliar recipes where you don’t know how it looks when its done, or if your oven is being kinda sus

@Satsuma huh. I feel like, with my bread maker, the only issue I've ever had was... after like 4 days the bread is pretty dry. I just assumed that was an issue with, bread made without preservatives. So I've started making the smallest loaf size it allows, to try to finish it within 4 days.

@The_T there’s a lot of reasons bread might go stale too quickly so its hard to say why!

if you’ve done everything right but want it to stay fresh longer, sourdough is traditionally thought to go stale slower than yeasted bread, or else you’ll want to add a gelling/emulsifying agent like pectin or lecithin. or you can make tangzhong, which would certainly justify the thermometer lol

@Satsuma I should do that but there's usually so little left, and also I'm lazy and don't want to learn how to make something new.

But tbh we eat salads enough that it could save money, idk
