Dogsitting and having to use Ex’s washer-dryer, which is this cheap Electrolux IoT piece of shit. And the way they force you to install their spyware is because you can’t freaking run the cleaning cycle for the machine without it???

Like I swear to god when I am Empress of the Universe any company exec that does shit like that will be taken out into the public square for people to stone to death.

Incidentally if you run any kind of external proxy thing like a pihole or whatever, it really gives the whole IoT game away, since none of them will even so much as connect if you block their outgoing “heartbeat” services.

Like controlling an appliance via BlueTooth when I’m standing in front of it is one thing. I don’t like it — call me old fashioned but I think I should be able to use my appliances that I paid my human cash monies for by physically touching them — but I can kinda understand it. But having to hand over personal data to “register an account” and then allowing some company to spy on my freaking washing machine usage should, and I mean this quite sincerely, be illegal.

Particularly for things like washing machines which have no remote use case? Like I can maybe understand things like air conditioners or lights or whatever, because okay maybe you wanna heat the room before you get to it, or something. But a washing machine literally has no purpose unless I’m physically standing in front of it physically loading washing into it. It is completely useless to me unless it is within arm’s reach and if I’m already within arm’s reach why would I want to use a fucking app???

@alis we’re running into this with dishwashers rn like, i am going to have to go down there and physically put the soap in and close the door, even if i don’t want it to start immediately why can’t i just use a regular delayed start, a feature which has existed for ages??? this is such an unnecessary complication to a solved issue
