Why do we lump galleries in with libraries, archives & museums as #GLAM? I've worked in a gallery. And special collections libraries/archives. And a university library. It's...barely a cousin?

@rowmyboat I think because all deal with cultural heritage objects of some kind and there's the overlapping skills and people. e.g. my friend who's a museum registrar worked in a gallery and might have skills to work as a curator in some kinds of special collections

...but honestly, because it makes the acronym more fun 😀

@platypus @rowmyboat i’d always assumed it was down to semantic drift leaving a bunch of old art museums with gallery in the name (eg the smithsonian’s national portrait gallery or the national gallery in london)

@Satsuma @rowmyboat I think that’s part of it too. I feel like 10 years ago I heard from someone who felt adamantly that she worked in a gallery that I’d call a museum. But it was a private thing, open to the public but one of those created by a rich person and with paintings not on sale… though maybe for sale if one offered.

I can’t place her though.
