#SnowflakeChallenge2026 Prompt 02 – Post about your pets, pets from your canon, anything you want!

I will take the opportunity to meta a bit about pokémon. Pokémon are kind of like pets and sometimes treated like them, but they really function more like Hobbes from Calvin & Hobbes—as representations or externalizations of aspects of their trainers psyche. When trainers conflict with their pokémon, it is really a form of self‐conflict; when they battle pokémon, it is proxy for a battle between trainers. The aims of pokémon and their trainers typically align and character growth is often signalled by furthering this alignment. This is of course in great contrast to real pets who often do not listen to, agree with, or resemble their owners at all. So really, I am arguing that pokémon are not pets lmao and failing to satisfy this prompt.
