yesterday i tried to get my friend kat to help me troubleshoot a recipe because i'm trying to make sure it's still flavourful while i adapt it to the dietary constraints of someone who's going to be at the potluck. admittedly i can never just say something without telling a whole fucking story about it so i was probably taking a long time to explain the situation but she interrupted me around the time i said "it turns out worcestershire sauce isn't vegetarian" and went "how many people are bringing food to this potluck? does EVERYONE need to be able to eat your food?"

no but i want them to be able to >:(

@rigormorphis you can get vegan worchestershire sauce! we keep a bottle on hand for a couple recipes

also, as someone with dietary restrictions I do appreciate it when people make an effort to accommodate them…sux do go to a potluck and the only dish you can eat is your own because everyone else was like “eh i’m sure someone else has [restriction] covered”

@Satsuma ugh yes that's my fear! I'm also kind of like well, I CAN do the work of accommodating someone, so why wouldn't I?

(ooh, thanks for the tip about vegan Worcestershire! I'm about to run out to a slightly fancier than usual grocery store to get some sharp cheddar for the same recipe, I'll see if they've got any Worcestershire that I can use while I'm there)

@rigormorphis yeah i mean obviously you can’t cater to every single possible restriction an attendee might have (some of them are mutually exclusive for one lol) but if there’s one that seems achievable for you it’s definitely a nice gesture

oh nice i hope you can find a bottle! & good luck with your cooking adventures
