Pet peeve: short cords on kitchen appliances. How many outlets am I expected to have in my kitchen? How many appliances am I expected to put in one place?

@ehyde the US building code you should have an outlet on any section of counter that is at least 12 inches wide, and an outlet at least every 48 inches on longer stretches so that’s one answer to the question of how many people are expected to have?

@Satsuma hmm. I guess with that in mind you should be able to put something with a 3ft cord anywhere you want, which makes it seem a lot more reasonable.

@ehyde yeah i think if you *do* have lots of outlets having shorter cords is more convenient (less voltage drop from resistance on the cord, less loose cord tangling/getting in the way to deal with) but its an assumption that is definitely super frustrating in any situation where it doesn’t hold true
