is it possible for different websites based on ao3 code to communicate with each other somehow? like, not right now, but hypothetically, how difficult is that to implement, is it even within the realm of possibility?

@morgana_catbus as the owner of superlove (site that runs otw-archive, ao3 code), right now no. and also as someone who occasionally codes, this really means putting them all on an open protocol which is a shit ton of work that would require basically rewriting the whole codebase

alternatively, there is currently an effort by my friend to write a fanfic archive based on atproto, the open protocol powering bluesky!!! it's all very experimental but it proves that it's possible https://tangled.org/@haetae.tngl.sh/fanfic-atproto

@morgana_catbus @moonsea since Ao3 already servers RSS feeds, probably the easiest thing would be to ingest metadata into search via RSS (and then it opens on the original site when you click on it). And it would make search even more server intensive than it already is which is not ideal

i think ourchive ( getourchive.io ) has federation on their roadmap but i havent checked in recently to see how thats going

@Satsuma @morgana_catbus yeah RSS is the closest to a protocol (more an open standard) that otw-a has. something could definitely be done with RSS but yeah it wouldn't be very optimized

@moonsea @Satsuma i am learning a lot 👀 thank you!! ooh right, RSS. i see, not a solution for this, but def glad they do have it *nods*

@morgana_catbus @Satsuma yeah RSS is like the gold standard for... well, open standards, lol, it's incredible
