today I pulled ragweed plants from our yard. they were so extensive that it took me nearly two hours!

we're pretty live-and-let-live about volunteer plants in our yard, but I do like to keep down the ragweed levels simply because it's such a common allergen.

but the goldenrod in our yard IS staying, obviously. even though there's a persistent myth that goldenrod is the one that triggers all the seasonal allergies! nooooo goldenrod is just more VISIBLE at the same time of year that ragweed is spreading its pollen on the wind! goldenrod is very obviously not wind pollinated, as evidenced by all the bees and wasps you find on thair flowers. and it's wind-pollinated plants that get into the air for allergic people to react to

anyway. did you know that overnight, bees hang upside down on goldenrod flowers. it's the cutest thing!
