question for any in the know: can nicotine patches, specifically matrix style transdermal patches, be cut in half?

context: partner's new long COVID doctor recommended starting nicotine patches for symptom relief. we're supposed to start at 3.5 mg, when the lowest dose commercially available is 7 mg. it seems like reservoir style patches canNOT be cut, but the info re matrix style patches seems to be leaning towards yes? we just don't want to get this wrong! tia!!!

@brie wikipedia says yes, if you keep the cut patches in the fridge & cites this study: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/

(unfortunately i haven’t used matrix patches, only single layer drug in adhesive so i can’t pass on my drs advice)
