crochet update: i have managed to convince myself that i will keep going like this and arrive at a blanket. i put the odds of that actually happening at, let's say, medium-low.

@purplecoww the upside of granny squares is if you decide to bail on your original project you still have a bunch of completed squares which can be used for something smaller!
